City firefighters commemorate International Firefighters Day
10 May 2026
Enthusiasts filled the Wesfleur Sportsground in Atlantis yesterday, 9 May, to join City firefighters in commemorating International Firefighters Day.
The annual event, hosted by the Fire and Rescue Service, gave visitors a look into the workings of the department, the staff and equipment.
The commemoration started with a cavalcade through the streets of Atlantis and was followed by exhibitions, live displays, sport and games.
‘Thank you to everyone who came to support our staff members who run towards danger without a second thought. We recognise their bravery and selflessness, and salute their dedication and teamwork. Let’s honour them by doing our bit to help reduce the risk of fires,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
